John Zimmer (front) and Turner Vosseller work on their research using the GC. |
The Hewlett Packard 6890 Gas Chromatograph (GC) is equipped with a chiral column to aid in the separation of enantiomers. The students in the inorganic laboratory course use it to determine the enantiomeric excesses of epoxide samples prepared by the Jacobsen manganese-salen epoxidation system. Students in the France group use the GC to analyze the products from their asymmetric cyclopropanation reactions. |
