The Hewlett Packard 5890/5971A Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) allows the separation of mixtures of compounds by gas chromatography and analysis of each component by mass spectrometry. Students in the Organic Spectroscopy course use the GC/MS to determine the molecular weights of their unknown samples. |
